It claimed that his wife, Kelly, hadn't paid about $10,000 in taxes on income from her work on DoorDash. None of them referenced Gardner's actual Social Security number, though all included the last four digits of other people's Social Security numbers. The hack gave the attackers access to Social Security numbers and other personal information about the drivers, the retailer said. Gardner, who had previously used DoorDash as a customer, said she ultimately ignored the 1099s she received. Tusk told BI that Last Brand has "continuously expanded their product line smack dab into our backyard." According to Gupta, the founders renamed the brand Quince in 2020 upon its official launch to play on the word quintessential, a reference to the brand selling premium essentials. "Off the record, we were eating at a sister restaurant to a three-Michelin-starred restaurant named Quince in SF, and we really loved the name," Gupta said. For now, the restaurant Quince will continue to deal with confused customers. "I know that we're outmatched and all that, but it kind of left us no choice," Tusk told BI.

Read previewA woman was charged over $1,000 for a Subway sandwich, leaving her strapped for cash and struggling to feed her family, according to reports. For context, this far exceeds the typical costs of a footlong sandwich at Subway, which tends to cost between $6.50 and $12. Bishop told ABC 6 that the charge left her feeling "stressed, overwhelmed," and, at one point, she couldn't even afford groceries because her "account was negative." She told ABC 6 she tried this multiple times but to no avail. "I'm just trying to make ends meet at this point in time," Bishop told ABC 6.

Temu's Super Bowl ads sparked a surge in online searches despite recent downturn among users. AdvertisementTemu was the talk of the town on Monday after its ambitious Super Bowl advertising campaign sparked a flurry of online queries about the Boston-based, Chinese-owned e-commerce company. The company splurged on three ads during the game and two afterward, per CNN, also offering $15 million in giveaways and coupons as part of its Super Bowl promotion. But while Temu saw massive growth in 2023, some of its numbers have started to fall off in recent months among American users, according to Bloomberg. But its Sunday advertising campaign may have already helped Temu regain some of its early success in the US.

Dear Tripped Up,After graduating from college in 2022 and working for a year, I used my bonus and some of my savings to book a nine-day Mediterranean cruise on Norwegian Cruise Line for my partner and me. Our $7,657 cruise package included airfare from Atlanta to Barcelona, Spain, via Newark, and Norwegian’s own BookSafe Travel Protection Plan, which included travel insurance and also allowed me to “cancel for any reason” for a 75 percent credit. So we spent the night in the Newark airport, paid for a return flight to Atlanta the next morning and canceled the cruise and remaining air legs. I would have moved on to help another Tripped Up reader, but Norwegian’s use of the responsibility-shirking phrase “as a gesture of good will” bugged me. I wanted to know why BookSafe didn’t cover you, and what other cruise customers can do to protect themselves.

Here's why owning a timeshare may not be worth it

While the industry has grown more popular, it has come under fire, as owners often struggle to exit their contracts. "I could have retired if I had my money back from this, but I can't retire right now because of this situation that I'm in," said timeshare owner Sheila Wagner. The timeshare industry is valued at more than $10 billion. Some timeshare companies will take back the deed once a buyer has paid off their entire contract, but that is not always an option. Even after the timeshare is fully paid off, the owner is accountable for rising annual maintenance costs.

Christina started taking Wegovy in September 2021 after getting a prescription through Calibrate, a startup that promises science-backed help with weight loss. She never received medication through Calibrate again, and she's since gained back all the weight she lost. Calibrate says its goal for Masters patients is to get them off weight-loss medications and help them maintain the weight loss they achieved. A former employee on Calibrate's clinical team said the startup allocated fewer doctors to second-year patients because those patients historically required less help from Calibrate. At least four second-year patients Insider spoke with said they sought refunds from Calibrate after they didn't receive the services they paid for.

Mark Cuban has "a secret that all successful people know," he says: Beware of anyone who claims they can sell you a foolproof strategy for making easy money. "When you see somebody on social media telling you how they're going to make you money, they're lying," the billionaire entrepreneur and investor told his 940,000-plus TikTok followers in a recent post on the social media platform, while sharing his "tip of the day." Be especially wary of ones who specialize in particular industries, or tell you they'll help you set up a specific kind of business, Cuban said. "When somebody is selling their idea — shoes, drop shipping, whatever it may be — to you, and they're selling it to other people, you know what they're doing besides lining their pockets?" Instead of cutting corners, do the difficult work of figuring out your best business strategy for yourself, Cuban advised.

I had purchased the RoundTrip Choice plan from Seven Corners Travel Insurance, so I called, expecting they would help coordinate my medical care with Italian-speaking doctors. But they told me to seek help on my own, save the receipts and file a claim when I got home. Seven Corners finally paid $5,772 for my bills and missed trip, but refused to reimburse me for most of my business-class fare. I have registered complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the state insurance agencies of Florida and Indiana (where Seven Corners is based), but I’ve gotten nowhere. Seven Corners says it will, according to its website, boasting of “a 24/7 multilingual team available to help with travel emergencies,” including help finding medical care and second opinions as well as “interpreter referrals” and medical evacuations.

Some states offer their own tax incentives, and utilities may offer rebates for installing solar. In some cases, rebates may affect the size of the federal credit, so consult a tax professional for help calculating your potential benefit, Ms. Walker said. Some solar contractors also do roofs or work closely with roofing companies, so you may be able to economize by having them done at the same time, she said. Some solar contractors offer the option to lease the system rather than buy it, but in that case you won’t own it — so you don’t qualify for the tax credit, Ms. Walker said. Like any home-improvement project, solar installations may attract disreputable contractors, said Melanie McGovern, a spokeswoman for the International Association of Better Business Bureaus.
